  • Biography: Karen Pero

    • Professional Background
      Karen Pero has 20 years of experience in lighting application, technology development and research. She has worked as an Illumination Specialist and Research Scientist for the Canadian and U.S. Governments and private sector. She has led public sector projects, was Executive Director of a large nonprofit in New York, was the first lighting designer/manager in the history of the National Gallery of Canada and conducted an energy and lighting audit of the Vice President's Residence in Washington in 1999. Ms. Pero has been involved with a number of international research consortia, such as ABSIC, COPE, W4 and WPC. In her role with the government of Canada, she participated in writing and editing a variety of lighting and daylighting standards and guidelines as well as assisting with the new LEED NC- SSc8 light pollution reduction. She is President of Pero Consulting, a company that specializes in lighting application, research and technology development, to enhance organizational and energy performance.

  • Biography: Winston Hetherington

    • Professional Experience
      Winston spent 23 Years with PWGSC working in the design, application and maintenance of Building Automation Systems from the preparation of specifications to site supervision and trouble analysis. He was the Technical Authority for the Development of the "Canadian Automated Building (CAB) Protocol, 1992- 2001. From 1996 - 2001 his title was Building Automation Systems Specialist - Technology Sector/AES National Centre of Expertise. Since 2002 he has actively been involved in the promotion, design and implementation of Personal Environmental Control (PEC) projects in various locations across Canada.
